One of the biggest things a lazy person like me struggles with is getting up in the morning. I just can’t do it. I’ll set the alarm clock extra early so that I can attempt a morning routine, but then I’ll just hit the snooze button 3 or 4 times. In which case I’m running out the door without accomplishing anything in the a.m.
The one thing that I have always been aware of and have remained committed to is staying hydrated. I am always thirsty. Sometimes I even start to panic if I know that I’m not going to be near a clean water source. I never leave the house without a giant jug of good ole’ H2O in hand. Our body needs water to process change and eliminate toxins. There are plenty of disputes about how much water you should drink daily, but the bottom line is that our bodies like water. I have found that the best way to stay hydrated and nourished is through herbal beverages. My favorite of coarse being a nice hot cup of tea, especially in the winter. Tea? You say? You mean, I have to boil water and WAIT for it to steep?! Heaven forbid we have to wait for anything these days. We want it now. Now! NOW! Now, there are plenty of yummy tasting herbal organic teas out there that are ridiculously expensive. Which adds up if you want to drink it daily. Plus, then you have all those empty bottles clanking around in your car, waiting to be recycled, right? The majority of my herbal clients have said that they don’t have time to make tea, and that they would much rather take their herbs in a tincture or a capsule. Not that there is anything wrong with that and tinctures and capsules are the best way to get a medicinal dose of herbs. But for regular everyday use nothing is more comforting then a steaming cup of tea. So, I’ve come up with a grab and go way to nourish and hydrate. Because I usually hit the snooze button too many times the only thing that I really have time for in the morning is to grab a cup of coffee and go. And the only reason I’m able to do that is because I have a clock on my coffee pot that allows me to set it to start making coffee at whatever time I set it for. If you’re as lazy as me, YOU NEED A COFFEE POT WITH A TIMER ON IT. You can usually find them anywhere and if you don’t think you can afford one, you can. Even drug stores carry cheap coffee pots with a timer for around $20. If you can’t afford that go to your local thrift store because they are loaded with coffee pots and you might even find a nice fancy one there too. Just make sure that you run water and vinegar through it a couple times before you actually consume anything from your thrift store coffee pot. I love coffee as much as the next guy but its good to take a break from it. Coffee kicks our adrenal glands in the butt and its good to let them chill out a little. Plus, after you haven’t had coffee in a while, that next cup is gonna be awesome with a nice little buzz to go along with it. So savor that goodness and switch to a caffeinated tea for a while. I like green tea or oolong tea. There are a million things that green tea is good for and has the research to back it up; like the way it naturally detoxes your body and is rich in anti-oxidants. I find that it is very refreshing in the morning and has just enough caffeine for a little pick me up. Fill your coffee maker with the desired amount of water.

I’m busy.
I work a lot and I’m an education junkie. When I do have free time, I usually use it to rest and recuperate from a long week and prepare for the next long week. Between work and school I rarely have time for anything else. I need things to be quick and easy, especially the things that I consider to be a necessity, like : food, hydration, and sleep. But just because something is quick and easy doesn’t mean it has to be filled with preservatives, microwavable, or unhealthy. I am also very self indulgent. I like to relax and take long naps, soak in the bath tub, and eat chocolate and drink wine even if there are chores to be done or errands to run. I’m a massage therapist and I believe that it is extremely important for everyone to take time out for themselves. Throughout my herbal and massage therapist training I have learned a lot about the connection of mind, body, and spirit and how essential it is to balance. I feel as a culture we have forgotten to take care of ourselves, and simply do not have time to do so. I am interested in taking ideas from the past and reintroducing them to today. This blog is documentation of my journey and experiments of bringing traditional healing to our modern fast-paced lives as lazily as possible.
